8th task: How green are you?

Enviroment is a trendy topic these days. Almost everyone is worried for doing enviromentally friendly actions. For example, we can see how people start riding their bicycles often or separating their garbage so they can recycle part of it.

In my case, my family recycles milk boxes, juice bottles, batteries, paper and other stuff. We started like 6 years ago. Before that we use to do it, but I wasn't a habit, just like giving out carton or old stuff.

Also I avoid riding cars… I prefer riding anywhere in bus or subway. I would ride my bike, but unfortunately my university and downtown (the two places I visit the most) are too far away from my house, so it makes it hard for me to take the last option.

But not everything is about recycling. There are other things we can do to protect the planet. For example: avoid plastic bags, carry your stuff by hand or in a purse or backpack; Reuse all damaged or old stuff you got, you can create new and useful products or even repare them.

My interest for this topic went further, and last year I joined Greenpeace like a volunteer.  There we discuss different events related with renewable energies, environmental disasters and so on. Also we develop campaigns to let the people know what things have happened without their knowledge. We give talks to schools and different groups too, so they can learn about oceans, forests, nuclear energy, peace and disarmament, etc.

I would like to see Chile, as a whole, worry about environment. I’d like to see more green spaces, so people feel motivated to walk, ride bike. Also it would be good to promote green energies, especially solar. And last but not least, get a cleaner air; it would the best thing that could happen to Santiago.

I hope this isn’t just a trend, and that society really gets the importance about taking care of our world. We are taking it resources and not giving anything back.

See ya.
